It is important to keep safe your precious documents like an ID card, driving license, UID or education credentials is the thing which can make lots of trouble? Now save all such credentials safely inside your house and carry the e-copies easily on your phone using the DigiLocker mobile application.
The road transport and highways ministry have notified to national transportation departments to take care of e-copies of vehicle registration documents and driving license in the DigiLocker or mParivahan mobile app as valid credentials at the same level with the original documents. However, sometimes the traffic police do not treat such credentials as convincing as originals. This happens mostly in cases where someone has not obeyed the traffic rule for which the credentials required to be held by the motor vehicle control department.
The department has now made clear that even such confiscation can be reflected through the database of VAHAN or SARATHI application, collected electronically by the e-challan system. “There would be no need of a physical seizure of such credentials,” the department said in a circular.
What is a DigiLocker App?
Available both on mobile apps and websites, DigiLocker is a digital locker to keep all the essential documents. It is linked to both UID/Aadhaar Card and cellular phone numbers thus eliminate the use of physical credentials. It is a significant part of the Digital India drive started by the Indian government, as all data is stored in digital form in the cloud.
You can simply upload scanned copies of your essential documents in the form of JPEG, PDF or PNG and access it from anywhere you desire. You can also e-sign these credentials, which works similarly as a self-attested copy of physical credentials.
How to use a DigiLocker App
- Go to the official website of DigiLocker or download the application DigiLocker on your cell phone. By using the UID/Aadhaar card number and cell phone number, you can make a user ID. An OTP will be sent on your cell phone to verify the credentials.
- If any association or department has uploaded your e-documents, you easily view them in the account. DigiLockers also provide you the facility to upload your e-sign documents.
- You also get the options of sharing credentials with others by sharing a web link of the e-document.

The uploaded papers and documents can be accessed anywhere with the help of the DigiLocker app on or by just signing into your account on your PC. You can also save the important certificates and IDs on a cloud and can quickly get a printout if needed.

This digital app also allows account users to electronically sign their documents using the facility of self-attestation simpler and more accessible by using e-Signature.
The facility keeps all the credentials save and secure. The credentials stored in the cloud and are obtained by a 4-digit secret identification code to avoid unauthorized access.
DigiLocker has adopted the feature of Aadhaar OTP for verification which means every time you want to log into your DigiLocker account; you have to type an OTP sent to your registered mobile phone.
