Pulwama-Balakot-Abhinandan-? War or #SayNoToWar?

Some sane voices from both the countries have raised on the microblogging platform on Wednesday afternoon in support of the trend #SayNoToWar. According to Autumn Grey, a Bengaluru based marketing agency, rising stress between India and Pakistan dominated Twitter with 17.39 million conversations about the heating issue shared on Tuesday and Wednesday. The twitter war, flooded the platform on 26th February, after India had confirmed about Counter-Terrorism action it took against a training camp of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in Pakistan.

The air strike by IAF was in retaliation to the Pulwama attack on February 14 by JeM on CRPF escort in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed the lives of 40 CRPF jawans. In counter response to an airstrike by IAF personnel, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) violated Indian airspace. The aerial fight shoots down Pakistan Air Force Fighter Jet. In the process, Wing Abhinandan Vardhaman captured by Pakistan’s army and a Mig-21 Bison crashed during the operation.

Due to high tensions at both the ends, the journalist community from both the sides of the border have come together for a mutual call for peace. The revered community has released a joint statement on Wednesday afternoon, calling for peace. The statement reads, “We request both the governments to curtail the tension, whose rapid development over the last two days is bloodcurdling. If the temperature is not scaled down immediately, things could slip out of hands. The briefing further reads, there are no issues which cannot be resolved through dialogues.

The briefing applauded Imran Khan, Pakistan Prime Minister’s offer of dialogue and requests Indian Prime Minister to take it up as soon as possible. In response to the statement released by the journalist, PMO on Thursday addressed Bhartiya Janta Party via video conferencing and said, “India will live as one. work as one, grow as one and fight as one.” He further said, “India is grateful to all those who are on the stake of their lives, protecting the nation with utmost bravery.

While journalists from both the nations have called for mutual peace, netizens took to microblogging platform to trend ‘#SayNoToWar.’ The hashtag was supported by all the celebrities from Bollywood and sports fraternity, making it the most used hashtag. While the hashtag trend in India was positioned at no.1, it was at position 3 in Pakistan.  With hashtag ‘SayNoToWar,’ netizens are also trending another hashtag ‘BringAbhinandanBack,’ ‘BringBackAbhinandan’ to name a few. The verified Twitter user, Haroon twitted, ‘Those who celebrate war will not participate in the war, those who participate in the war, will never celebrate war. #SayNoToWar’ under his handle name @TheRealHaroon. In support of the trend, #SayNoToWar, Pakistani women came forward and said, ‘We don’t want war. We want peace.’
